Il Peresvet (in cirillico: Пересвет) è un'arma laser di fabbricazione russa progettata, si suppone, per difendere postazioni mobili o silo in cui sono allocati i missili intercontinentali delle forze missilistiche russe. 

Ad ogni modo, la maggior parte delle informazioni su di esso è coperta da segreto militare.

Il sistema prende il nome da Alexander Peresvet, monaco guerriero del XIV secolo, eroe della Battaglia di Kulikovo ed è stato scelto tramite sondaggio online sul sito del Ministero della Difesa russo. Il Peresvet è una delle sei nuove armi strategiche russe svelate dal presidente russo Vladimir Putin il 1° marzo 2018 dinanzi all'Assemblea Federale ed è entrato formalmente in servizio nel dicembre 2019.

Caratteristiche

Il laser Peresvet può essere utilizzato per neutralizzare velivoli senza equipaggio, missili cruise ed altri velivoli a bassa quota. Allo stesso tempo però, la sua efficacia dipende direttamente dalle condizioni ambientali: con il bel tempo funziona perfettamente, ma in condizioni metereologiche avverse (nebbia, pioggia, neve) possono interferire con l'efficacia del raggio laser prodotto.

In futuro il laser da combattimento saranno probabilmente in grado di proteggere basi militari con sempre maggiore efficacia e perfino essere montato su velivoli militari.

Impiego

Il dispiegamento della prima unità laser Peresvet presso le forze armate russe, è iniziato nel 2017.

Il 1° dicembre 2018, è entrato in servizio sperimentale di combattimento mentre, secondo le dichiarazioni dell'attuale Ministro della Difesa Sergei Shoigu, a partire dal 1° dicembre 2019 i sistemi Peresvet sono stati schierati al seguito di cinque divisioni missilistiche strategiche.

Alcune fonti riportano di un rischieramento del sistema in Siria, durante il quale sono state testate le sue capacità anti-aeree: al Peresvet è stato accreditato un abbattimento di un UAV israeliano.

The Peresvet (Russian: Пересвет) is a Russian laser weapon. Most of the information about the complex remains secret; however, according to experts, it is supposed to perform the tasks of Air Defense and Missile defense.

The Peresvet is one of the six new Russian strategic weapons unveiled by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018.

History

The system was revealed for the first time by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his message to the Federal Assembly on 1 March 2018. The equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with the complexes began in 2017. On 1 December 2018, the Peresvet laser complex took over experimental combat duty. According to Valery Gerasimov, the Peresvet laser complexes have been on the combat duty since the beginning of December 2019. The complexes have been deployed with the road-mobile ICBM launchers with the task of covering their maneuvers. According to Sergei Shoigu, as of 1 December 2019, Peresvet was deployed with five RVSN rocket divisions.

Design

According to the military expert Igor Korotchenko, director of the Center for Analysis of the World Trade in Arms, the Peresvet combat laser can be successfully used against unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, its effectiveness directly depends on environmental conditions; in good weather, it works perfectly, but fog, rain, snow and other adverse weather events can interfere with the passage of the laser beam. The expert also added that such installations consume a lot of electricity, so using them as a portable tool is unlikely to succeed; but in the future they will be able to protect military bases and other locations from penetrations of UAVs into their territory.
