In data 15 dicembre 2020, la Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) e la tedesca HENSOLDT hanno firmato un accordo di cooperazione strategica congiunta in base al quale le due società produrranno congiuntamente sistemi radar per la difesa ABM e parteciperanno a progetti per la sorveglianza aerea e spaziale. Inizialmente la tedesca HENSOLDT e la sussidiaria IAI ELTA offriranno un radar a lungo raggio da utilizzare sulle fregate classe F124 Sachsen della Marina militare tedesca. Questo radar utilizza la banda S, il che consente al sistema un rilevamento molto più preciso dei bersagli nello spazio rispetto ad altre soluzioni. La classe F124 Sachsen è l'ultima classe tedesca di fregate di difesa aerea altamente avanzate costruita da un consorzio composto da Blohm+Voss come cantiere principale, Howaldtwerke-Deutsche Werft e Thyssen Nordseewerke.
La IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) contribuirà con il suo know-how tecnologico e molti anni di esperienza nello sviluppo e nella produzione di sistemi di difesa contro i missili balistici a lungo raggio, in modo che vengano utilizzati componenti già collaudati in servizio. L’azienda tedesca HENSOLDT, che equipaggia tutte le principali navi della Marina tedesca con radar, produrrà i componenti principali ed assemblerà completamente i sistemi radar a lungo raggio che potranno essere offerti al cliente tedesco così come ad altri partner NATO per l'intera durata degli eventuali contratti.
L'accordo di cooperazione è stato concluso con il gruppo ELTA di IAI, che ha sviluppato la famiglia di radar Ultra e Spectra: questi radar forniscono capacità di ricerca e rilevamento avanzate di missili balistici e satelliti a distanze considerevoli. I radar sono prodotti maturi e collaudati sul campo e utilizzano un design flessibile per supportare i cambiamenti nei requisiti operativi e le eventuali minacce future.
Yoav Turgeman, VP IAI e CEO di ELTA, ha dichiarato: "IAI vede la collaborazione con Hensoldt come un significativo passo avanti nel far avanzare le sue operazioni radar in Europa e sfruttando la sua esperienza tecnologica accumulata in decenni nella difesa aerea e nelle missioni spaziali. Le comprovate capacità di i sistemi radar per la difesa dai missili balistici in Israele e nel mondo aiuteranno la Germania a raggiungere i suoi obiettivi operativi. Abbiamo identificato un crescente bisogno di sistemi radar avanzati di allerta precoce che forniscano un'immagine aerea dettagliata in tempo reale per facilitare la selezione delle misure di difesa appropriate ".
La HENSOLDT è il fornitore dei sistemi radar avanzati della Marina tedesca, utilizzati anche sulle corvette K130 e sulle nuove fregate F125, appena entrate in servizio. Il portafoglio è completato da sistemi mobili, terrestri e aerei, radar a corto raggio e radar passivo di nuova concezione.

I sistemi Ultra e Spectra coinvolti nella cooperazione sono stati progettati per funzionare indipendentemente l'uno dall'altro come sistemi di rilevamento. Supportano tutti i livelli di difesa aerea, da medio a lungo e molto lungo raggio. Entrambi i sistemi sono mobili e offrono fino a 500 km di capacità di sorveglianza e rilevamento su aerei da combattimento.
I sistemi forniscono:
- allarmi tempestivi tramite satelliti,
- missili balistici
- e altri bersagli aerei a distanze molto maggiori.

HENSOLDT and Israel Aerospace Industries to supply A.B.M. radar for German Navy's F124 Sachsen-class frigate
On 15 December 2020, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Germany's HENSOLDT signed a joint strategic cooperation agreement under which the two companies will jointly produce ABM defence radar systems and participate in air and space surveillance projects. Initially, Germany's HENSOLDT and IAI subsidiary ELTA will offer a long-range radar for use on the German Navy's F124 Sachsen-class frigates. This radar uses the S-band, which allows the system to detect targets in space much more accurately than other solutions. The F124 Sachsen class is Germany's latest class of highly advanced air defence frigates built by a consortium consisting of Blohm+Voss as the main shipyard, Howaldtwerke-Deutsche Werft and Thyssen Nordseewerke.
IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) will contribute its technological know-how and many years of experience in the development and production of long-range ballistic missile defence systems, so that service-proven components will be used. The German company HENSOLDT, which equips all major ships of the German Navy with radar, will produce the main components and fully assemble the long-range radar systems, which can be offered to the German customer as well as to other NATO partners for the duration of any contracts.
The co-operation agreement was concluded with IAI's ELTA group, which developed the Ultra and Spectra family of radars: these radars provide advanced search and detection capabilities for ballistic missiles and satellites at considerable ranges. The radars are mature, field-proven products and use a flexible design to support changes in operational requirements and possible future threats.

HENSOLDT is the supplier of the German Navy's advanced radar systems, which are also used on the K130 corvettes and the new F125 frigates, which have just entered service. The portfolio is completed by mobile, land and airborne systems, short-range radar and newly developed passive radar.

The Ultra and Spectra systems involved in the cooperation have been designed to operate independently of each other as detection systems. They support all levels of air defence, from medium to long range and very long range. Both systems are mobile and offer up to 500 km of surveillance and detection capability over combat aircraft.
