La serba Zastava sta sviluppando il nuovo fucile d'assalto modulare M -17 cal.6.5 × 38.7 mm.

La Zastava Arms serba, meglio conosciuta per il suo modello AK M70, ha sviluppato negli ultimi due anni il nuovo fucile camerato in una cartuccia da 6,5 x 39 mm. Lo Zastava M17 è progettato per essere un fucile modulare, basato in qualche modo sul fucile M05 dell’azienda.

L'M17 utilizza: 

• una maniglia di ricarica in stile AR; 
• piuttosto che la tradizionale maniglia AK;
• un coperchio monolitico per la polvere / tubo del gas con guida Picatinny superiore a tutta lunghezza;
• un calcio pieghevole regolabile in stile ACR / SCAR. 

Zoran M Susic, responsabile marketing e ricerca della società Zastava, ha confermato che la base per l'M17 modulare è lo Zastava M05 calibro 7,62 × 39 mm, il classico ed immortale sistema Kalashnikov, che è il calibro standard dell'esercito serbo e di innumerevoli altri paesi.

Il nuovo fucile utilizza anche un meccanismo di cambio rapido della canna che può essere "sostituita in meno di 60’’ con una nuova canna che spara proiettili 6,5 × 38,7 mm utilizzando attualmente un caricatore da 20 colpi e presto anche un caricatore da 30.

Oltre alla maniglia di ricarica in stile AR, i controlli del fucile sono ambidestri con interruttori di sicurezza / selettore su entrambi i lati del ricevitore. 

Le foto svelate mostrano un'astina con punte MLOK e binario Picatinny a ore 6: nuove foto mostrano il fucile con copri binario scanalate.

È interessante notare che il fucile sia ora camerato con una cartuccia proprietaria 6,5 × 38,7 mm, piuttosto che nella cartuccia Grendel originale 6,5 × 39 mm. Il nuovo proiettile è stato sviluppato dalla serba Prvi Partizan, un produttore di munizioni. Secondo il ministero della Difesa serbo, il nuovo proiettile ha caratteristiche balistiche migliori, con una traiettoria più piatta e più energia cinetica sul bersaglio fino a 800 m.

Il nuovo fucile M-17 è stato presentato nelle configurazioni fucile, carabina e DMR.

Serbian company Zastava is developing the new M -17 modular assault rifle

The Serbian Zastava Arms, better known for its AK M70 model, has developed in the last two years the new camera-shotgun in a 6.5 x 39 mm cartridge. The Zastava M17 is designed to be a modular rifle, somehow based on the company's M05 rifle.

The M17 uses: 

• a refill handle in AR style; 
• rather than the traditional AK handle;
• a monolithic powder/gas tube lid with a Picatinny guide over the full length;
• an adjustable folding stock in ACR / SCAR style. 

Zoran M Susic, marketing and research manager of the Zastava company, confirmed that the basis for the modular M17 is the Zastava M05 calibre 7.62 × 39 mm, the classic and immortal Kalashnikov system, which is the standard calibre of the Serbian army and countless other countries.

The new rifle also uses a quick-change barrel mechanism that can be "replaced in less than 60" with a new barrel that fires 6.5 × 38.7 mm bullets currently using a 20-round magazine and soon also a 30-round magazine.

In addition to the AR-style reloading handle, the rifle controls are ambidextrous with safety switches/selector on both sides of the receiver. 

The unveiled photos show a rod with MLOK tips and Picatinny rail at 6 o'clock: new photos show the rifle with grooved rail covers.

Interestingly, the rifle is now chambered with a proprietary 6.5 × 38.7 mm cartridge, rather than the original Grendel 6.5 × 39 mm cartridge. The new bullet was developed by Serbian munitions manufacturer Prvi Partizan. According to the Serbian Ministry of Defence, the new bullet has better ballistic characteristics, with a flatter trajectory and more kinetic energy on the target up to 800m.

The new M-17 rifle was presented in rifle, carbine and DMR configurations.
